Pipe Organ Tampa Lessons

The pipe organ is an incredible instrument. It is awe-inspiring and majestic. Put a child at the console and they become instantly hooked on the spectrum of sounds and features available at their fingertips. Throughout his childhood, Mozart, himself, experimented with and played at least eleven different organs in ten places, including Prague, Haarlem, Leipzig, Vienna, and Salzburg.

Lately the organ has been losing ground in sacred circles, with many North American churches launching worship bands instead. I believe it is short-sighted to remove organs from churches. The organ is a timeless instrument with unparalleled sound capabilities and deserves a place of honor in any community.

Due to advanced computer technology we don’t need pipes anymore to reproduce an authentic Church Organ sound. Sampling of real church organs, propagating the music by using multiple audio channels and convolution reverb, will offer an unprecedented music experience. The Organ of Poblet refers to a significant three-manual, 56-stop pipe organ built by Metzler Organ Building in 2012 for the Royal Abbey of Santa Maria de Poblet in Catalonia, Spain. This versatile instrument is known for its synthesis of European Baroque and Classical styles, its rich tonal qualities, and excellent mechanical tracker action, making it a sought-after instrument for concerts and recordings. It is an instrument of interregional Baroque sound aesthetics, i.e., a well-balanced synthesis of the most significant features of the European organ schools of the Baroque era. The tonal design is based on the German Baroque style, centered in the music of J. S. Bach. However the instrument also includes bright reeds, mutations and fonds of French and Spanish character, and late Baroque elements. The voicing and tonal finishing were in charge of Andreas Metzler in consultation with the Abbey’s main organist Josep Antoni Peramos. The organ was built in 2012 by the Swiss firm Metzler Orgelbau AG. Pipe Organ Tampa is proud to have a such high quality instrument in the Technology Lab of Westchase Music School.

As parents, we were searching for a pipe organ teacher for our son and had difficulty finding anyone in the Tampa Bay area. A friend recommended Westchase Music School and Mr. Hanspeter, and we are so grateful. From the very first lesson, our son was motivated and excited to learn. The organ setup at Westchase is excellent, and Mr. Hanspeter is not only a wonderful teacher but also an accomplished organist who has truly inspired our son to appreciate the beauty of the church pipe organ. We are thankful for his dedication and guidance in our son’s musical journey.
