Music Technology Lab
Our dedicated music tech lab is a terrific way to supplement and reinforce the learning that is happening in the classroom and through ensemble work. It allows students to:
- focus on and perfect techniques and ideas that they are working on or may be struggling with
- receive real-time feedback from their practices
- work individually or in small groups to research compositions and composers that they are currently studying
- evaluate and enhance their own musical performances
- create and develop new musical ideas and composition at our dedicated Composer Station.
- be exposed to music and musical performances that they may not have access to outside of such an environment.
Our dedicated music tech lab also opens up the possibility of creating and offering new and innovative courses that could appeal to students beyond the traditional music learner, including courses like audio engineering that could fit into a school’s recording studio.
Since each type of interaction the students will have with the computer, a well selected software is imperative to operate a successful lab. Topics that are addresses are Music theory, Notation, Song Composition and Music Production.
Music compositing is an important activity at our school. As students, most musicians at least start to explore the idea of writing their own musical compositions, rather than just play other people’s music all the time. These experiments often end just as quickly as they began because students feel that they aren’t any good at it, or they run into obstacles and they give up early. This is where our Music Lab closes the gap with a systematic curriculum and gradual approach for successful composition.
We use various recognized software in our Lab, such as Finale, Maestro, Audition and more.
